Downeast Maine Residence
The goal of this project was to create an artist residence/studio that is not only integrated into the landscape but also supremely energy efficient.
Passive solar design and geothermal heating (vertical closed-loop) are incorporated within a super-insulated building envelope. A grid-tied photovoltaic array provides electrical power that results in annualized “net-zero” energy usage.
Blueberries grow on the roof in the summer months.
This intensely collaborative project won a 2013 Merit Award from the Boston Society of Landscape Architects and a 2014 Citation from the Maine Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
